MIDO 2026 Recap – Innovation, Smart Solutions & Personalization
This year’s MIDO took place in Milan from January 31 to February 2, 2026, and OBE once again proudly participated. The exhibition remains a key milestone in our annual trade fair calendar and a vital platform for innovation and industry exchange. Our focus this year centered on two main themes: Personalization and Smart Developments. In the smart segment, we introduced our latest concept SMARTFLEX – an innovative spring hinge designed for smart glasses, currently presented as a concept study. We will now evaluate the feedback received and integrate insights into further development. Another major highlight was the Flowlink hinge, featuring three width options and three differently sized cable channels. Following its successful world premiere at SILMO 2025, the product is now commercially available. Within the personalization segment, we showcased our extensive capabilities in customizing and enhancing plastic inserts, backed by many years of experience. The demand for individualized solutions continues to grow. To support customers in taking their first step toward customized inserts, we once again presented our design insert, which is part of the OBE standard product range. Additional personalization options are offered through design variations in the base of front hinges, particularly for recessed applications. Both custom inserts and front hinges require transparent or near-transparent acetate to best highlight premium finishing techniques. Overall, MIDO 2026 was a great success – and we are already looking forward to next year!

At the UnitedXR exhibition (https://unitedxr.eu/) in Brussels, we had the opportunity to showcase our latest smart hinges for smart glasses. We now offer four standardized and universal cable feedthrough solutions, enabling smooth and secure routing of a cable or FPC from the temple to the front of a data frame.

OBE strengthens management team and technological expert Ispringen, December 2025ise
As of January 1, 2026, OBE GmbH & Co. KG is restructuring its management team. Farewell to Erik Schäfer as Managing Director of the OBE Group After more than 35 years with OBE – including over 22 years as a member of the management board – Erik Schäfer will step down from his positions as Managing Director in various domestic and international entities of the OBE Group effective December 31, 2025. However, Mr. Schäfer will remain closely connected to the OBE Group beyond January 1, 2026, in an advisory capacity.

OBE at the Eyewear Fair in Hong Kong!
From 5 to 7 November 2025, the time had come once again – the Hong Kong Optical Fair opened its doors at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. And of course, OBE HK was right in the middle of it all! Our sales team from Hong Kong and China was fully engaged on all three days – supported by the OBE team from Germany. Together, we held exciting discussions, established many international contacts, and presented our latest products. A big thank-you to everyone who was there!
